Allegis Global Solutions Presents Survey Data on Challenges and Opportunities in China’s Evolving Talent Landscape

Singapore, October 5, 2022Allegis Global Solutions (AGS), the leading provider of global workforce solutions, has released a report titled, “Thriving in China’s Shifting Talent Landscape.” The report is based on a survey of 100 human resources (HR) and procurement decision-makers in China to ascertain the status of hiring and workforce management in the region. Among the results highlighted is the conflict between the ease of acquiring talent (76% of respondents say it is easier now than two years ago) and finding effective talent (96% report business issues stemming from the changing workforce, such as low engagement and reduced productivity).

When presented with the survey findings, Vice President of AGS APAC Sarah Wong responded, “These statistics are in direct contradiction of each other, so it begs the question, ‘are companies targeting the right talent?’ If it is easier to find talent and yet the workforce is not performing at the right level, it indicates companies are going with a ‘what’s available’ approach – not what is right for the business.”

The report covers an array of topics, from talent pressures on business performance and a growing emphasis on flexibility at work, to the rising gig economy and extended workforce, and the push for holistic workforce strategies. Each section of the report reveals respondent data and insights from AGS leaders in the region to provide perspective on the findings, which include:

  • 80% of respondents say they cannot secure needed workers due to their organisation’s inflexibility regarding location and job requirements
  • 41% still have an ad-hoc strategy for accessing the extended workforce
  • 27% report a need to improve internal systems to better manage gig workers
  • 62% of organisations have yet to employ a total workforce strategy, despite 46% stating they are prioritising such a strategy

“We see a greater commoditisation of talent generally in China than the rest of APAC, and this needs to change,” adds Wong. “When you place value on the attraction of acquiring the right talent and have a holistic, long-term view, outcomes will start to change.”

Other AGS leaders joining Wong to share their insights in the report include:

  • Anata Hua, Head of Recruitment Operations, Recruitment Delivery Centre, AGS China
  • Chris Wang, Head of Operations, AGS China
  • Lily Ye, General Manager, AGS China
  • Molly Tam, Executive Director, Service Excellence at AGS APAC

AGS partnered with research firm M-Brain to survey HR and procurement senior managers and above earlier this year. Respondents represent a balanced cross-section of industries and a company size of no less than 1,000 employees globally.
